Posted by Administrator in : nomadika , 1 comment so farwe´ve covered a good number of destinations so far: laguna beach, los angeles, sacramento, berkeley and san francisco. we had a taste of so-cal surf culture, toasted our skin on a single beach excursion; and were lucky enough to spend a day hiking around echo lake before the big fires.

now its time to head to the east coast, to woodstock for a few days and then further north to amanda and sai´s wedding in the berkshires.
venice beach is always all about seeing friends, it´s been great to re-charge batteries by hooking up with like-minded souls. this is probably what i miss most now that i live in spain, people are nice, people are lovely, but people are rarely like-minded.
now that there are kids around, time takes on a new meaning: the snivelly baby crawling around on the last visit is a revolutionary toddler this time round, and there are beautiful new additions to the clan such as Maya, Robin and Carole´s beautiful five month-old. The most mellow child I have met in a long time.
I do feel people work at a crazy pace here, far more intense than in Spain. Inevitably this is always due to a project which will soon end and naturally one must put matters such as eating good square meals, sleeping and relaxing without external help completely on hold. This is one of the reasons I don´t live there anymore, but I do love seeing my people, they´ll always be my people no matter where I live.

Posted by Administrator in : nomadika, rustika , add a commentit´s either a cyclical thing or just pure magnetism, but i´m back in california enjoying spectacular views of the Pacific, soheil´s mum´s hospitality and the company of old friends with new ideas. the latter is what charges my batteries the post, a good dose of socialisation along with an intro to progressive ideas that probably won´t make it to southern europe for another few years. as much as europeans love to hate the USA there are bubbles of quality that surpass many other places. so on the eco front, everyone has their compost going on, recycling grey water, biodiesel fuelled cars and i was turned on to an excellent book called Homework by Lloyd Kahn who spent a few years photographing structures made with alternative materials or techniques. many of these were inspired by his previous book Shelter. what with the high cost of housing in spain perhaps the problem could be solved by following the advice given in this book.

Posted by Administrator in : nomadika , 7commentsSo we spent the weekend in Denmark, a fun escapade, jam-packed with activity. Believe it or not we managed to do some sightseeing around Copenhagen, and up in Elsinore we visited the Kronborg Castle. But that´s not the end of it, we also attended Sigurd´s confirmation party in picturesque Lejre, and managed to marry 2 of the 3 couples on the trip! That´s DK for you: love is in the air.

It was all mega-comfortable, in true Sigurdsson style: lovely hotel opposite Tivoli, beautiful meals and plenty of laughs along the way.
Main discoveries: 1_There´s more to DK than the little mermaid, the Danes are actually pretty stylish people: the ultra cushy swan chairs created by Arne Jacobsen at the hotel plus the Design Days exhibition confirm I’m not making it up.

2_they can´t get enough beer no matter what time of day, they guzzle. 3_they seem relaxed and flexible but do things properly at the same time. In clichéd terms they´re not as strict as the Germans and less messy than Spaniards. Nice combo. 4_They love to sing and give speeches at family gatherings: they take folk songs and change the lyrics to poke fun at whoever´s being celebrated. At Sigurd´s do we sang at least 6 songs andplayed a singing game. Apparently this was nothing in comparison to the norm.
What with the marriage and all I ´ll never forget Denmark, I wear their flag on my lapel and look forward to going back one summer to experience those looong days and millions of mini islands in the north.
