aguaThe United Nations warns us that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population – more than five billion of us – will lack access to water. How is it possible that the water crisis could explode within a single generation? There are many causes – such as pollution and overuse – and corporations have contributed to them all. Now, in the face of this crisis corporations are seeking to gain control by turning water into a profit-driven commodity. American based NGO, Corporate Accountability International, have launched a campaign called Think Outside the Bottle to fight for public ownership of water supply and against the corporate take over. They are targeting the bottled water industry that, in the USA alone uses 1.5 million barrels of oil to produce and freight the product to market. The campaign is asking the public to think about alternatives such as filtration systems at home and in restaurants, demanding more accountability from Nestlé, Pepsi and other corporations for their activities.
