Posted by Administrator in : nomadika , add a commentFriday was the second screening of Not a Dream at mau mau, which turned out to be a really cool space: big white sofas, warehouse roominess, excellent lighting. The guy in charge had dj’ed the night before at the Apolo, before and after Kid Koala.
The hen weekend served as a perfect excuse to discover a few other good spots in the city. Las Fernández is worth mentioning: good food, great ambience and friendly staff, lovely vibe. Nobody minded Gopi’s sequin Playboy ears or the fact that different fragments of the group broke into song every now and again. I also discovered a super delicious Catalan sauce too, its called Romanescu, I think.
Saturday involved lounging by the pool, cava, and surprising the Hen with amusing nonsense. The highlight was a gorilla strip tease at sunset whilst the girls sang the Jungle Book. Surreal.

The rest of the night was spent at the top of Barcelona, in the posh part of town at Danzatoria where we dined and danced. Oh and Gopi kissed many men on the cheeks, using the hen night as her excuse. Photographic evidence here.
To end the weekend, I accidentally discovered the Krsna Temple Restaurant. A tastey veggie menu: salad buffet, elaborate main dish and dessert for 6 Euros, in a radiant place. Monday to Friday from 13:30 to 15:30 behind Plaça Reial.
Very nice. Laloka will be back!

identity, no delays and pretty charming hostesses. I liked their deal, but I suspect I belong to their target market: thirtysomething on a brief getaway going to do something fun in an interesting city.
Funny coincidence that when chatting with Kati in her Borne workspace, she tells me that the lecool team will be editing their inflight magazine. I like those circles, I still like lecool, René is a good guy and I feel a little nostalgic of the days when I wrote for their Madrid edition.
Kontx is in New York, so I´m taking her place in Barcelona, we like it. Barcelona is good too, people seem friendlier than on past visits and I´m into their cycling attitude, they even have these fancy bicycle taxis, a first world rickshaw that
take you around downtown. Clever.
Friday means my hen party arrives: 13 london ladies sending Gopi off into married life. The weekend´s highlights shall include gorilla serenades with incredible views as a backdrop, t shirts for everyone with Gopi´s 8 year old school photo on the front, lots of cava and the Shah family´s usual funny business to make things fun for Gopi while she is still Miss Shah.
Thursday means Kid Koala with my Finnish gang. Turntablism to the max. An ultramixed pastiche of my whole popular music culture. The King of Samplers used everything from The Cure, Tears for Fears, old school hip hop, Björk, I don´t know…it was all pretty surprising but very well put together. Reminds me of Z Trip in the technique consisting of making new tracks out of sampling many other songs. Great visuals too.
