It was one of those last minute situations, the doors opened and we ended up at the
ferdinand´s gig_I found my friends and their friends_we made it to the stage just as
they struck the chords to the first song_we managed to place ourselves strategically
(always important when you aren´t very tall) although right beneath a gigantic
speaker, detail I failed to notice until the music stopped and I realized I had gone
deaf. we went crazy with the music and I jumped up and down like I never thought I
would at this late stage_but mayik, alice and I jumped about more crazily than
anyone else in the 8000-person crowd devoted to the Scottish band_oh yes_ a mini
shroom made its way into my mouth at some point during the course of the evening
aswell. the concert only lasted about 5 minutes, and I went back in time to my
twenty-something Stirling days_that was when I was in charge of the campus radio
station and spent a lot of time at gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as
interviewing cool bands on the happening indie scene at the start of the 90s_my boyfriend
at the time was a scooter fanatic, and Alex Kapranos was one of his mates, now Franz
Ferdinand´s singer, I remember him elegantly dressed in his fitted tonic suits_he was
already in the music scene back in those days, which is why I am so pleased he has currently
made it the heights of Euro mega-success_no need to go into all the details and the famous
Stanleys badge_but there it was, pinned to my lapel_ and since it was an evening of
fortuitous coincidences, I had the opportunity of saying hey to Mr. Kapranos_thus
completing a series of revivals of previous eras in my short but exciting
lifetime_it is very interesting, life, its spiral mechanisms are fascinating
